By Franz Kafka.
One morning, Gregor Samsa awakens to find himself transformed into a monstrous insect, thrusting him into a nightmarish reality that challenges the very fabric of his existence. As he struggles to adapt to his new form, Gregor faces the harsh realities of societal rejection and familial betrayal.
Where to start? What an odd story on the surface of it. A man wakes up and finds that he has turned into a bug. A big bug. The man is the main provider for this family which is an issue – as he’s now a bug.
He can’t work.
It’s an absurd story but then its themes are alienation. The family quickly turn against him in disgust, except for his sister who feeds him and cleans his room albeit from familial duty as entering his room clearly terrifies her.
The man goes through his transformation, and his family go through theirs.
As the man becomes further isolated, the family seem to come ‘alive’. His father gets a job and his sister starts to talk about how to get rid of him.
Eventually, the man, hs alienation complete dies, freeing the family to move on to a better life.
Odd!!
